You know it’s autumn when New York becomes the first city to kick off fashion week – which ironically previews spring/summer collections. Even better? The spring 2023 hair trends worth having on your radar are showcased, too. Which is especially handy if you want a jumpstart on the styles, cuts and colours that will be big next season.
That’s not to say we’re not mega excited to give the headlining autumn haircuts a whirl (looking at you ‘70s layers and curtain cuts), but since knowledge is power, we’ll take a sneak peek at what’s coming up next year, too.
Of course, there’s some lols, cray-cray lewks in the mix, but it wouldn’t be fashion week without some bonkers, experimental trends to make us reconsider whether our natural colour and go-to cut is all it’s cracked up to be. So far we’ve seen outgrown bowl cuts in pastel green and purple at Prabal Gurung, who through in a choppy cool-girl mullet as well, because why not? And we’ve seen Billie Eilish-style root pops and straight-up neon buzzcuts at Collina Strada.
Tommy Hilfiger’s bringing back the side-parting (which has also seen support from Kim K and Megan Fox in recent months), and Naeem Khan has taken a regular top knot, then next-levelled it with structural twists. But, we’ve also seen beautiful natural texture celebrated at Ulla Johnson and Altuzarra where afros, loose waves and hybrid curly-straight textures were free-flowing. Plus, you know that noughties spiky bun that models like Kendall Jenner, Neelam Gill and Bella Hadid have been wearing for off-duty days? It’s been deemed high-fashion enough for the catwalk by Jason Wu. Fancy.
